These are all of the picture used on my music magazine, they go in order of non-edited and edited apart from picture 3 as that one had no edits done to it.

Explorations Of Font And Colours
I have looked at many different magazines during my research
portion of my work and this has allowed me to view conventions of these
magazines. I decided that I wanted to use a font that was easy to read but
would also be considered fun to read, this is why I used Balloonist SF as this allowed to have both things
that wanted, I did use other to split the text up a little and give it some
variety but I used this font the most.
I tried to represent my
target audience of rock through colours and house style and this therefore
allowed to set my colours and house style, the colours I did use are dark
colours such as browns and blacks and this is because these are the colours
that are usually represented with my target audience of the rock genre and
because I did use colours that would normally represent them I am more likely
to appeal to that target audience.

Music Magazine Photo Shoot Planning Sheet
My magazine will consist of a few images of people that will
require a lot of thought in to what effect they give off when people look at
them. Keeping this in mind I wanted to make my images fairly simple but still have
them link to stories in the magazine. I
will be using a mostly close-up shots and longs shots of people in my magazine
and the person I will be using as my model for these pictures is George Pierce,
a fellow media student, as he has the type of look I need for my magazine which
is things like a leather coat and can look very intimidating when he wants to
be and this is the closest I can get to what I want for my images.. There will
be no backgrounds to my images after they have been edited so I want to make it
as easy as possible by putting my model on a dark background to make it easier
to remove the background. I will be using images without background because I
want to use the images as a reference or a guide to a page in the magazine and
I don’t want them to distract people from the many stories so if I make them
simple they will still catch people’s eyes but they won’t keep people occupied
for long.
I want my model to be dressed in a very particular way so
that it suits the type of people that my magazine is aimed at. Since they are
the people that listen to rock they are Stereotyped in a very particular way; wear lots of leather and have a lot of
piercings and tattoos and they always look intimidating, I will use this stereotype
while doing the photo-shoot because if the magazine has these types of images
on it then it is more likely to attract and appeal to an audience of this
stereotype.
The lighting that I will be using on my imagery will want to
again follow the stereotype of the target audience and since they stereotyped
as preferring darker colours to lighter colours I will use predominately dark
colours on photo-shoot.
This is the magazine that inspired me to do my
magazine photo shoot in a particular way and as I would like my magazine to
have a front cover picture similar to this one but following rock stereotypes
and conventions such as dark clothing and lots of leather clothing and also
being very intimidating more closely . When
I looked at this magazine it gave me so many ideas for what my magazine would
be like and that is why my ideas will be quite similar to this design of
magazine.

Magazine Cover Lines
I have come up with a few possible cover lines that I
could put on my magazine front cover and this is because I decided that my cover line will heavily relate my cover image to my cover picture and because I want to have a
picture of a new band I want to be able to have something related to them. I am
thinking of using some type of language method such as alliteration to improve
to the overall quality of the front cover but also making the cover lines
catchier and will remind people of the magazine when they think of it. I will
also try to use a simple two sentence line that is split up in to 2 separate
parts which allows it to be still catchy and allows for the line to take longer
to be read and entices the reader to read more.
What Will My Interview On My Double Page Spread Be?
For my double page spread I will be focusing on a story about
a new band and their new songs and stuff similar to this. This will be laid out
in a paragraph form to show that the different paragraphs will be talking about
different things.
This story on this particular double page spread will be
directly linked to story and image on the cover page as they will be about this
story and will be about the same thing but the things on the cover are there to
entice people to read the magazine and showing this story on the front makes it
seem more important than others and increases its chances of being viewed by
people. My contents page didn’t really contain a main story to link to the
double page spread but it will contain an image that will link to my double
page spread.
Magazine Questionnaire Analysis
On my questionnaire for question number 7 I asked people
“What types of things would you like to see in a magazine?” and the most common
answer from all the people that did my questionnaire was gossip meaning that my
magazine will need to have some form of gossip to work with the thoughts of the
people who answered as they are the type of people that would buy this magazine
and therefore I would want to cater to their preferences so people like them
would read my magazine.
Another question I asked on my magazine was how often my
magazine should be published and the majority of people that did participated on
my magazine thought that my magazine should be published monthly and if I
was to publish my magazine I would make sure that my magazine is published
monthly as it can be assumed from the questionnaire that people prefer it this
way.
Another question I asked on my questionnaire was how much
people would pay for the magazine of this type and the most common answer was
“£2.01-£3” which means people would be willing to pay quite a bit for my
magazine meaning that I would have to have high quality magazine and not many
ads for this prices range as a price as high as £3 people would be expecting
quality.
Another question I asked on my questionnaire was how often do
you listen to music and the most common answer was people listened to music for
10+ hours a week meaning that I would need to have a very eye catching magazine
to get their attention as these people would be listening to music a lot and
won’t notice as music as people who do but this also means that people who do
read the magazine are more likely to understand some references to music
therefore engaging them more.
For the most part the participants that did my questionnaire
fully and correctly but some people however answers some of the questions as a
joke but the rest of the results allowed me to understand want people want in
magazines and therefore allows me to change my magazine to make it more
appealing.

Music Magazine Title
Music
Magazine Title
I had to come up with a name for my magazine and for this I thought
up of 4 different names for my magazine and asked my peers to so which on they preferred
and the results were as follows:
Music Madness
10
Madness Music
3
Rock And Roll
4
Control The Night
3
Music Madness won by a land slide meaning that I will be
naming my magazine Music Madness. I believe that name was chosen over the other
because Madness Music doesn’t flow very well and the other two names that I came
up with and two general or don’t fit the genre of my magazine very well. If for
some reason my magazine title doesn’t work very well for some reason then I will
use Control The Night as a backup title.

Genre Of My Music Magazine
For my music magazine I will be targeting a certain audience to aim my magazine at. I will be aiming my magazine at the stereotype of people who listen to Rock since my magazine will contain music mostly in the Rock genre. These types of people are stereotyped as wearing lots of leather clothing and having long beards and hair, so when I come to making my magazine I will try to represent these people with imagery and colouring that would match their stereotype in this case I would be lots of brown or black colours.
The magazine will have a colour scheme involving lots of brown and black or other dark colours and this is because people who listen to rock are stereotyped as wearing lots of dark coloured leather clothing, the picture below would be an example of the type of people that would listen to rock.
As seen the people in the picture these people would be
stereotyped as listening to a lot of rock and they are wearing leather jackets
and a lot of them have long hair and beards, I will need to somehow represent
these types of people in my magazine but I am planning to do to do it through
my colour scheme. I can also do it through the type of language I use, this is
because these types of people are stereotyped as only have the basic concept on
language so I will use basic language to represent them.

Orignal Image For College Magazine
These are my images for my college magazine I only showed the edited and unedited pictures for my first image because the other 2 only had small adjustments such as resizing added to them.
College Magazine Front Cover & Contents
This is my college magazine front cover and contents page, originally I had planned for my cover page to be slightly different to what I had planned to do was have the person on my magazine be siting in a cross legged and have to words around but when I came to doing this I found I very difficult to find a decent picture when I took them. So instead I used a different picture of someone standing up and put pictures around them, I did this because it looked a lot better and was easier to accomplish. I also changed the colour of my text on both pages as before I w
asn't very clear so I changed it to complement my backgrounds colours. I didn't change much on the contents page.

Front Cover Analysis
AS Media Front Cover Analysis
This particular magazine is aimed at people who want to join
a college so mainly people aged around 16 – 18. I would say that the college
magazine is aimed at people who maybe more interested in creative studies such
as art or product design.
The masthead is in white bold text and stands out from the
rest of the magazine; this is done to make sure that you know what magazine you
are reading the second you look at it.
The strapline is giving the reader information about the college and what
magazine is about but it is straight after the masthead so you could possibly
see it after taking a deeper look it the magazine, the text is like this
because it shows the importance of text as the larger the text, the higher
importance the text is considered. 50TH Anniversary is in large italics
and is very large on the cover this is done because making it large and putting
it in italics makes it more pleasant to look and attracts the reader’s
attention, this can also be done to point out something of very high importance
and the 50th anniversary could be considered important.
The colour scheme of the magazine is very plain with lots of
greys and white with a picture of a girl with paint on her hands, the paint is
the only really colourful thing on the entire and it stands out very much. The greys and white suggest that the college
is very professional and follows very high standards, while the paint on the girl’s
hands represents the college as also being full of creativity and happiness.
The sell line ‘The Future Is Hands-On’ links very heavily with
model and the cover as it is showing that the future is in her hands in this
case and her hands with paint on show creativity which would show off what the
college has to offer in a very simple but effective way. This would make people
consider this college because of how effective it is.
This magazine is less professional and more casual than the
previous one and I believe that it would be aimed at females aged around 16 –
18 either just about to join college or have been in college for some time.
This magazine is less specific
than the previous one and I believe that people
who like
gossip magazines would like this type of magazine. I also
believe that
this is a female oriented magazine because
some of the largest text writes
about ‘Beauty’ and women
tend to be more concerned with their beauty and looks
than
men.
The colour
scheme of the magazine is very bland and plain
but the colour white can also
represent purity which
would link to the model as it is showing her as pure and
even the magazine as pure and honest. This
is also
done to make the woman in the
middle of the magazine
cover stand out as much as possible, it is also done to
make all the text stand out. The magazine masthead has
been blocked out by the
woman in the middle of the
cover suggesting that she is a very important person
and
may even be a model or famous person of some sort;
this again refers back
to the gossipy vibe of the
magazine, this could have also have been done
because
it showing that most people who read this magazine are
regulars are
already know the name of the magazine.
She is also wearing a very bright
coloured dress which
again makes her stand out more than anything on the
cover
and this is again reinforcing the fact that she is important.
Some sell lines around the woman
is in a bold text
suggesting that it is of more relevance than text with
smaller
text, since this magazine seems to be very gossipy these
bolder text
are about gossipy things such as ‘Sean Kingston’
Like the following one this magazine seems to be less serious
than the first as it is the same magazine just a different issue. However this
magazine wouldn’t be solely for females as I believe that if would be for both
gender aged around 16 – 18 as it is for college students. Again I think that this magazine is quite
gossipy and a lot less professional than the first as the texts are about
gossip and things like ‘thank god it’s Friday’ which again shows that magazines
supports other things than just college.
The house style of this magazine cover is unlike the other
two magazines as this one is very bright text on a dark background which makes
all the yellow text stand out more than anything on the page and this make the
reader look at the yellow texts first before anything on the page.
The male on the front cover is again in front of the title
which makes him seem more important but this time he doesn’t stand out as much
because he is wearing a darker clothing that matches the colour of the
background suggesting that he isn’t as important as the last woman. This
magazine doesn’t have a specific gender audience as it has used a male model
and he is particularly famous which suggests that the main focus is on him. More important texts look to be in the same
colour as the masthead, a bright yellow which makes them stand while less
important texts look to be in a white colour. This is done to make you look at
yellow texts first to draw you in.
Than man on the middle of the cover is shown wearing casual
clothing and holding work books which is representing college life and what it
is like, it could be also representing what the magazine is like. The magazine
is shown as casual but still about education.
The magazine cover seems to have somewhat of a balance especially
with the colours as there doesn’t seem to be too much of any colour of the
cover but also the amount of text to the size of the model on the page seems to
be in balance.

Contents Page Analysis
Contents
Page Analysis
On the
contents page there is only really one main person. The picture of this person
is a long shot and the person is called Ciara and she is a famous song writer,
this shows that she has had quite a large story in the magazine as she covers a
large portion of the magazine it suggests that she is important and will be the
first thing people see.
The house style for the magazine is prominently black and
white. The background is a black/white fade and this is done so the text can follow
a similar pattern and stand out really well. The title of the page has an
extremely big font size and is in bold white and a black background which makes
it stand out, and the single world ‘CONTENTS’ is split up into 3 separate
lines, this is done to make you take your time to read the title and in the
process of reading the title you will begin to notice other things on the page
which will make you more interested.
Behind the title there is an outline of a ‘V’ which stands
for the name of the magazine ‘Vibe’, this is done to remind the reader what
magazine they are reading. This is done again with the woman on the front as
her legs are in the shape of a ‘V’ again representing ‘Vibe’ this is done to
reinforce the reminder that this magazine is Vibe and you should expect quality
from it.
The magazine uses quite a few font types and sizes to
represent different things of the page, for example the title uses a very bold
text to make it stand out while each of the categories use a different font
type to provide a variety between fonts and this is done for nearly all pieces
of text of the contents page and this is done because it shows that the
magazine has more variety and is not plain.
The target audience for this magazine would be a majority of
males as the woman on the page is shown in a very provocative way and would
entice a lot of males to look at this magazine as it is more likely to attract
a man’s attention rather than females. The expression on the woman face is
again supporting this view as she has a seductive gaze; she is also wearing
quite a short dress and is putting her legs up in the air to again entice the
male reader.
